    Vinyl siding has been the #1 most installed siding product in the US for many years. Take a look at this siding materials page, it breaks the different siding materials down for you. Vinyl, Fiber Cement & Cedar siding are the most popular choices and in that order. There are different grades of vinyl siding … for residential application a thickness between .044 to .050 is recommended. .040 to .042 are what is considered “builder grade” vinyl siding products – they are thinner and don’t typically perform as well as thicker products.
